Storytelling Australia Victoria is in the process of dissolving its incorporated structure. Storytelling will of course continue to thrive in Victoria and we are in the process of envisioning new ways for storytellers and story lovers to connect.
SAV Vision and Values
Our Vision is that storytelling is valued as a skill and practice in the same way as reading, writing, arithmetic and art.
Our Purpose is to nurture the art of storytelling.
Definition - While we are flexible and we recognise that the words ‘storytelling’ and ‘storyteller’ apply to many situations, the focus of the work of SAV is on storytelling that is live, oral, and without notes.
Inclusiveness – We welcome and seek to involve people from all walks of life who value storytelling.
Nurturing – We respect the emotional life of people and strive to be friendly, nurturing and supportive.
Courage – We are committed to working through conflict with courage, respect and kindness.
Sharing – We value and respect storytelling knowledge and foster a generous, sharing and transparent culture of storytelling.
History – We value history: history of people, places, groups and stories.
Gratitude – We are grateful for the storytellers who have come before us, the tradition of storytelling, the founders of this organisation and those currently involved in storytelling in Victoria and the rest of the world.
Time – We acknowledge the time involved in the art and craft of storytelling and we value the time given by volunteers.
Adventurous – We are adventurous and willing to take creative risks and seize opportunities.
Innovative – We encourage new ways with story and new collaborations and new audiences.
Sustainable – We celebrate storytelling as an art form with a low carbon footprint and we are committed to environmentally friendly practices.
Governance – We are attentive to the health of the organisation and regularly set aside time to reflect and refocus.
Collaboration – We encourage collaboration with and between our members and stakeholders.
Community - In our activities, events and goals, we seek to create and foster community.
